Arsenal F.C., Sead Kolašinac, Unai Emery, Héctor Bellerín, Shkodran Mustafi, Burnley F.C.,
Arsenal manager Unai Emery faces a defensive crisis together with as many as six defenders fighting for fitness. Arsenal’s injury list continues to get longer as Unai Emery’s men continue to survive a difficult ending to 2018.
The club’s 22 games unbeaten run came to a conclusion after a 3-2 defeat away to Southampton, which has been followed up by elimination from the Carabao Cup in the hands of Tottenham.
Now, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has become the latest player to succumb to injury, having been ruled out of Saturday’s game with Burnley. The Armenian joins full-back Hector Bellerin on the injury list, together with the Spaniard ruled out before 2019 with a calf injury that forced him off against Southampton.
As reported by Football London, Shkodran Mustafi can also be ruled from the weekend’s action due to a hamstring injury, and child Konstantinos Mavropanos remains out with a groin problem. Teenager Emile Smith-Rowe still has not recovered from a hip injury, whilst Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding remain long-term absentees.
There are little bits of good news for the Gunners on the injury front, however; Sead Kolasinac is expected to come back from a thigh injury, whilst Laurent Koscielny is in line to start at the Emirates on Saturday. Mesut Ozil, that was left from the defeat Tottenham for’strategic reasons’, could be recalled to the starting eleven on Saturday.
This will be a testing period for Emery, as his side will play three matches in six days during a congested Christmas period.
Sead Kolasinac will face a late fitness test today, while Emery has confessed, he is very likely to rest Laurent Koscielny having played him in three fittings in less than a week.
Offering an update on his team’s fitness center, the Spaniard also ruled Henrikh Mkhitaryan from contention.
“Above all, I think that the mentality is a really major mentality to help us. We have the players and they’re playing out of position, like Xhaka and Lichtsteiner a week in Southampton.”
Further forward, the Gunners also have several injury concerns.
