Google Hangouts for Customers to Shut Down in 2020

Hangouts have been suffering from an identity crisis since Google launched it as a replacement for Gchat in 2013, and it has actually been losing features lately as the firm ceased updating the program and took away SMS messaging. That change was a part of Google’s new focus for Hangouts, which will stay safe for now as a workplace communication tool in the form of G Bundle’s Hangouts Chat, as well as video conferencing system Hangouts Meet.

Google hinted at “giving up on using its own user messaging program” back in April when it announced a brand-new RCS Chat attribute inside Android Messages. Chat hasn’t officially launched yet, as the timing is up to each provider, but reports of service for RCS messaging coming from ancient 2019 fit the time for Hangouts shutting down in 2020.

Google has suggested for decades today that it intended to position Hangouts as a competitor to workplace chat programs like Slack. Since 9to5Google mentioned, there has not been any movement on development to the program in some time, and Google eliminated Hangouts’ service for SMS in May of this past year.

But Hangouts has not had quite a successful run in the mobile program world in which WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat and many others have hurried into the top. When Google launched its messaging program Allo in 2016, the question on everyone’s mind was what is the company going to do with Hangouts?

After an announcement by Google in March 2017, Hangouts was divided into two goods: Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat.
